There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:
http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Educational post:
That scam is described as scam #11, at
http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts_rev.html

OBVIOUSLY NOT an IRS agent. Not all of them are bad people, but, as in all nationalities , races, and religions, their are 'bad' people.

Today at 6:am I was woke up by Agnes with a heavy Indian accent who claimed to be from "Medical Verification Co."

I was not fully awake and could barely make out what she was saying but. she said her records showed I suffer from "Diabetic" When I answered NO she apologized and said Good Bye.  No sure what this one was phishing for but I found it funny that two days ago I got an early morning call from the IRS from using this exact same phone number

Dominic Spencer, latino accident (very heavy) from 202-241-1925 called left message stating he was from the IRS. He had my name right. That my name was submitted for legal documents ...sent to me...arrest.  Asked me to call back and that they were "looking forward" to my call. I doubted but called just to see if it sounded official on the answering machine. Thier voice message stated something to the effect of "IRS, if you don't know the exact number of person who called you don't worry our agents will call you several times."
