I got a call on my answering machine telling us to call the following number 202-684-3502 and when I did, a man identifed himself as IRS Officer Allen Alston IRS id NX178641 as they are from the IRS and found that we had used the wrong table tables for years 2008-2013 and that we owed a bunch of money. He then transferred me to his superior at the IRS another officer named Mack Smith IRS id DB4012. They were trying to get me to pull money from our bank accounts to purchase a prepaid card card that would resovle our error ???  I told them several times that this was a scam and hung up. They called me right back and said the this was not a scam and if I did not follow their directions, police would be at my door in 45 minutes. I stopped talking to them and they tried called me an additional 10 times and that was the last time I have heard from them.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
