Called and asked for basic info. on me like my age, whether I was married and whether I was employed. They never asked for my birthdate or SS#. The Chinese accent calling from supposedly the US Treasury and then a "917" number and the US government giving me $9 k for being a good citizen told me that this was a scam. They said that I could collect the money at any Western Union, but they wanted me to go to a Walmart for "further instructions to be given to me in the parking lot on my phone and then I would fill out a form there to avoid my state claiming State taxes". I have a Masters in Acct and one reports monies received or earned. There is no state form needed for money wired to a person by any entity. I would have to declare that myself or define that grant as being non-taxable, which in itself sounded implausible. Other posters have said that they want $250 for the tax or fee to be sent to them once they got to Walmart. Of course you will never see the $9 k.
