Received a call from this number on Friday, 10 Dec 2015 @ 1255p est, that is actually showing on my caller id as: "20-215-4184" & listed as "Out-of-area". Did not notice at first that the last digit of the area code was missing, but as the caller identified herself as calling from the United States Government Grants office, I'm assuming it might have been "202", plus searching on "20-215-4184" doesn't get me into ANY of these type telemarketing call sites.
As stated above, caller identified herself as calling from the U.S. Gov. Grants Dept. & that I had been randomly selected to receive a grant of some dollar amount ($8,000?). I cut the TSR off before she could go to far by saying "Just how stupid do you people think I am? I am a Naval Officer & I KNOW that this is not the way the Grants office works" or words to that effect. Calmly told the caller that I was not interested (even though a part of me secretly hoped they were legit), to put my number on their DNC list & that I would report them to the FTC & FCC if I heard from them again.
Am writing this out of concern that there just might be a scam out there of telemarketers calling ppl to tell them have received this so-called "Grant" in an effort to get at people's bank account info. Since I am a disabled Vet & on Soc Sec Retirement, the Federal Government ALREADY HAS that info on me, I'm not too worried, but wasn't going to let this TSR get that far. Meant to call the "REAL" Grants Office to let them know there may be an active scam out there of ppl masquerading as Government Officials, but will have to do this Monday.
Good luck. Hope no-one else gets targeted by this type of call.
