caller asked for canon meter reading- claiming to be our contract rep- however, our contract rep would know that we already faxed in our meter readings as we do every month.

I work in Canon sales and that ph# is a legitimate Canon phone number for the services folks who call for meter reads.  The idea that there would be any profitable reason to ask anyone illegitimately for a meter read is pure imagination.  There could be any number of reasons why the contract rep doesn't have your latest meters, either the fax (who faxes any more, anyway?) was lost, it didn't get to him for some reason, or there could be a new rep on the account.  If you're oddly suspicious of such phone calls, ask to submit your meters via email going forward and the person calling will be glad to make that change to your account.

yeah i got the same thing i hear that you can make money by asking the meter ing or serail number and you can get like a check for doing a service call like a payment for service on the copy machine but i think this is a scam cause it happen to me but i called back and the phone is busy you cant call it cause it never pickss up

Judging from your spelling, you're probably in about third grade and not able to read this at mommy's computer right now because you're at school.  But meter reads don't benefit anyone in a profitable way, that's ridiculous to think that someone would be involved in some sort of scam by asking for meter reads for a copier.  Exactly who would be mailing a check for a meter read?  That number that called you is a legitimate phone number of Canon's service contract department, I called it just now and got through fine.  If you have some weird phobia about getting phone calls for meter reads, you can ask the rep to switch your meter submission method from phone to email, so you can just email them in.  Unless you think that someone is somehow going to swipe your email and then rule the world because they have your meter reads from your copiers.
