Caller ID: Dumont, NJ. Same as above. Made it very clear I didn't want his help.  Well, at least this one didn't curse at me before hanging up.

Caller ID showed 91618; but caller gave me 1-201-338-6180 to call back.  Said this was service provider of windows operating system and they were receiving reports of virus on my computer.  He had me look at the computer management event viewer error log and said I should count the warnings and errors, said this indicated 30-40 viruses and that they were multiplying.  He wanted me to go to www.support.me, at which point I stopped him and said I had antivirus on my pc and was going to check further myself.  I asked for a number to reach him and he gave me the above call back number, saying it was their "toll free" help number and that his name was Andy.
Sounds like a SCAM to me...

Indian voice this "Computer Maintaince Services" we have been getting messages that your windows computer is sending messages that it has been infected by viruses. If I would go to my computer he would prove to me that I had been infected by viruses.

Who are you and what is your address says I. "Computer Maintaince Services" St. James Street London 1 201 338 6180 I typed the number into Google in another computer as I continued to talk to him. Many Google hits all bad.

I have been a computer professional for 40 years this could be fun.

I then asked him for his proof. What he did was walk me though to a system event viewer file which had routine system events logged. He then tried to convince me that each of these events were a major problem that must be dealt with now and I needed to follow his instructions exactly.

He said I had to do this and he then brought his "supervisor" in to convince me that seriously bad things were happening and I must follow their instructions.

This is a scam.

Same scenario as previously reported.  Very strong East Indian accent.  Barely audible at times.  Had great difficulty understanding most of what he was trying to say.  Had to have him repeat himself many times. The only real information I got from him was the phone number to call back for verification.  After investigating further, I found the phone number belonged to an address in Dumont, NJ, it is a land-line phone and was registered May 10/99.  Could not narrow it down any more than that.  Needless to say, I did not call this number...it is definitely a scam!
