Insists he is collecting for the police, can-tell me who just for the police of nj.  Told him no pledges over phone, and I only give to my local police.  I said send a blank info card so I know who you are - he said ok, but I need an amount to put in the box.  I need more info.  I said I had to go, I said no pledge at this time.  How do we know which is real and which isn't.

That was smart. It is always easier to check with police dep't first rather than jeopardize your personal/payment information by giving it to someone over the phone. The police usually ask for donations by mail only or through their official city/state website.  ALWAYS check first before giving any information over the phone.
